 Galactica Season 2.0
 Mike Wood
 03/01/2006

By now you’re probably wondering how many times I can review Battlestar Galactica (see the Winter and Summer 2005 issues for season one reviews). The answer is, as many as I can. The greatest sci-fi show on television is once again available on DVD, though in this case it’s only the first half of the newly “re-imagined” show’s second season. These episodes lead up to the cliff-hanger that was resolved in January 2006. By the time you read this, plans to release an addendum or even the entire second season on DVD might have been announced.

If it is, know that the video will look excellent. The show’s production values are still suspect, with intentional filtering and overexposed lighting used for dramatic effect, but unlike the BSG miniseries DVD, the 2.0 transfer is clean and colorful. These episodes are now as enjoyable visually as they are contentwise. The 5.1 audio puts your surround speakers to good use on occasion, as well, though not nearly as often as it should.

Extras are abundant, including deleted scenes and interesting commentary by the show’s producer. Like the first disc, however, they are restricted to material already available on the Sci-Fi channel’s website.
