TV-on-DVD Review
Produced by:
British Broadcasting Corporation
Distributed by: Warner Home Video, BBC Video
Price: $29.98
If you weren’t aware that television seasons are called series in the United Kingdom, you’ve failed the first test of fandom for Little Britain. And if you’re likely to be offended by a recurring cast of characters such as the Only Gay in the Village, the World’s Least Convincing Transvestite, and the Most Incoherent Trailer Trash Teenager in Britain, it’s safe to say this two-disc set holds nothing for you. The five of you still reading this are in for a treat, though. The brainchild of comedy duo Matt Lucas (Da Ali G Show) and David Walliams (nothing you’ve ever heard of), this outrageous sketch comedy show is the UK’s funniest export since Eddie Izzard.

Granted, the DVD’s crisp, clean anamorphic widescreen transfer does little more than expose the bad teeth of the show’s players—not to mention the fact that Little Britain probably had a higher lighting budget when it was a radio program—and the two-channel audio does little to clarify the thick caricature accents. But the wealth of commentaries, featurettes, and hilarious live sketches included here more than make up for the show’s lackluster production value.
