Meridian Dumps Numbers for Letters with New G Series
Spring 2004

Building on the success of its 800-series products but abandoning the numerical moniker, British-based Meridian introduced a new line of electronics called the G series. The new products consist of three core components: disc players, controllers (aka preamp-surround processors) and amplifiers that can be configured into specific products. There are four disc players, for example, ranging from a high-end CD player to a state-of-the-art DVD-Audio player with controller and tuner. The stand-alone G68 controller–descended from the company’s much lauded 861 surround processor–includes all of the latest surround decoding formats, including Dolby Pro Logic IIx. The unit can be configured for use with Meridian’s digital loudspeakers or can be outfitted to work with more customary systems. The latter setup complements the G-series amplifiers, which employ the same technology found in Meridian’s DSP8000 loudspeakers. Prices vary based on configuration, and all models are currently available.
