Big New, Little Articles

Indianapolis, IN—For every movie buff whose dreams of owning the best have been thwarted by the realities of high price, ARCAM is pleased to debut the first true High-End Home Theater electronics engineered at a real world price.

Based upon sections of the award-winning AVR300 and AVR250 receivers, the new AVP700 Processor takes ARCAM’s proprietary circuit topology to a higher level.  “Building the AVP700 on our existing platform lowered costs and shortened development time,” said Arcam’s Charlie Brennan. “But the AVP700 is much more than a receiver with the power amp removed!” Optimized for superlative home cinema processing and world-class music reproduction, a newly designed power supply offers significantly lower noise and improved dynamics. Electrical components--Burr-Brown op-amps, 1% metal film resistors, polypropylene capacitors, etc—which were simply too expensive to include in the receiver’s populate the through-plated fiberglass PC boards of the AVP700.

The AVP700 also boasts an array of performance and convenience features unique at its price. Thanks to ARCAM’s “technology partnerships” with many of the Consumer Electronics Industry’s most powerful companies, the AVP700 is the first specialty audio processor equipped with HDMI switching for superior control of modern video sources including HDTV. And since long runs of audio cables can affect sound quality and introduce noise, the AVP700 includes BALANCED XLR outputs for all eight channels. Unlike the “single-ended XLR” outputs found on many processors, ARCAM designed a dual-differential output board specifically for the AVR700, enabling consumers to take full advantage of balanced interconnection.

As with ARCAM’s recently introduced Solo music system, a front-panel jack allows instant connection of “iPod type” personal MP3 players. Outfitted with an Independent Zone 2 (for audio + video), duplex RS-232 control, RC5 jacks for both zones, 12V triggers and a full suite of discrete IR codes, the software-upgradeable AVP700 performs double duty as a State-of-the-Art multi-room controller.

ARCAM’s new P1000 multi-channel power amplifier is the ideal complement to the AVP700. Rated at 135 watts RMS into seven channels, all channels driven, the P1000 has more than enough power and current to drive any speakers to extreme levels. Driven by a huge toroidal-transformer-based power supply, the innovative rail switching amplifier design ensures cool-running operation--a necessity for custom theater applications—and incorporates a sophisticated multistage protection system for trouble-free operation. Bristling with audiophile-quality components, seven identical, precisely matched amplifier modules generate a seamless, perfectly balanced surround soundfield. Both Balanced-XLR and single-ended RCA inputs are included, as is a 12V trigger input for remote turn-on and turn-off.

Available in both silver and black finishes, the ARCAM AVP700 and ARCAM P1000 will ship in early June. MSRP of the AVR700 is $2,199 US and the P1000 carries an MSRP of $2,299 US.
