Mahwah,
N.J.—Recognizing the growing consumer demand for LCD televisions and the rising
popularity of high-definition programming,
Sharp, the global market leader in Liquid Crystal television*, today announced a new 20-inch AQUOS(tm) LCD
television. The new AQUOS
television, model LC-20B6U-S, is the first to offer consumers HDTV and
PC compatibility in a smaller
body. As Sharp's first LCD TV to
offer expanded capabilities in a
4:3 screen size, the LC-20B6U-S broadens the already impressive AQUOS line, which
includes more than 40 different
models. "We're addressing the growing consumer demand for LCD TVs by bringing
new capabilities to smaller screen
size offerings, as well as increasing the
variety of design and installation options available to our
consumers," said Bruce Tripido,
Director of Product Marketing, Display Devices, Sharp. "Sharp's ongoing goal is to provide
consumers with a solution to any of
their LCD needs by offering the widest selection of screen sizes and colors, as well as exciting capabilities
and innovations that include
wireless television and home networking options." Building on the existing 4:3 AQUOS
models, the LC-20B6U-S offers enhanced
features that increase the functionality of the television. It is able to receive and display HDTV signals,**
allowing consumers to enjoy
high-definition programming.
In addition, the television has a PC input that allows it to double as a PC monitor
without sacrificing picture
quality, making it the center of the networked home. This feature furthers Sharp's initiative to transform
the television from a display
device to a multimedia device that is integrated within the home
network. The LC-20B6U-S features a
sleek and stylish design that has defined the AQUOS series since its inception, with
built-in side speakers and a silver
body. Its sophisticated
design fits seamlessly into any décor and the detachable table stand allows the
television to be removed easily from the
stand and mounted on the wall. As with previous AQUOS models, the LC-20B6U-S uses Sharp's
proprietary Advanced Super View
(ASV) panel with Sharp's proprietary "black TFT" low-reflection coating so it can be
placed anywhere - even near windows,
doors or other light sources.
The unit also offers 170-degree viewing angles, enabling consumers to watch TV
clearly from anywhere in the room,
as well as high contrast for clear vivid pictures, and high brightness
for blacker blacks and exceptional
color clarity. The
AQUOS brand liquid crystal televisions emphasize the elegant design and superior performance consumers have
come to expect from Sharp
products. All products in
the AQUOS line offer a long-life backlight
(60,000 hours), multiple video signal inputs, one or more built-in
cable TV tuners, remote control,
V-Chip and high brightness for more vibrant colors in darker environments. AQUOS TVs are currently available in
13- to 37-inch screen sizes in
traditional 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 aspect
ratios. In August, Sharp
will offer a 45-inch screen size, the largest available widescreen AQUOS LCD HDTV with
built-in "plug and play" cable card
compatibility.
The LC-20B6U-S will be available later this month for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price
(MSRP) of $1,299.99. For more
