Sharp Sharp introduces world’s largest LCD TV

09/01/2005

Sharp
The industry’s leading seller of LCD, liquid crystal display, flat-panel televisions has introduced the largest LCD TV available for sale to date. In addition to its size, the 65-inch, widescreen panel sports a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution and a new four-wavelength backlight. The latter adds more “crimson” to the backlight’s existing red, green, and blue color spectrum, which allows the TV to reproduce richer, deeper pure red colors. The 65-inch set was expected to be on sale in Japan as of August 1, 2005 for just under $16,000. Sharp’s 50-inch and larger LCD displays may be available in the U.S. market by the end of the year.
