Consumer electronics manufacturers often create new faceplates and model numbers for the same products they sold last year. Runco has done the opposite by updating parameters inside many of its DLP (Digital Light Processing) products that, outwardly, have the same model numbers and cosmetics as before.

The Gen 3 Technology products utilize Runco’s SuperOnyx light engine, which includes the newest 720p resolution digital-micromirror device chip by Texas Instruments (TI). The HD2+ chip utilizes TI’s dark metal process, employs a steeper, 12-degree mirror tilt, and has a redesigned hinge component. These should combine to create an image with darker black levels, greater image contrast and less noticeable pixel structure.

SuperOnyx also adds a seven-segment color wheel and a nine-point color balance system to improve color fidelity. An adjustable aperture allows the installer to optimize the light output for the viewing environment. All Gen 3 Technology products offer DVI inputs with HDCP and use an all-glass lens system, which prevents chromatic aberrations. Even the user interface has been updated with the Imaging Science Foundation’s 3C (Certified Calibration Configuration) program. This should help the dealer create an image that meets industry standards. Make sure your new Runco product bears the Gen 3 Technology logo.
