Common Questions

Q:

Greetings from Ajax, Ontario, Canada
(just east of Toronto)

My uncle was over on Saturday and said that he was told by an Electronics Store that "LCD Panels" are coming soon  and will replace Plasma as the thing to have.

My uncle said that the salesman said that he wasn't talking about present LCD TV, but LCD Panels.

Have you heard of these "Panels" ???

Thank you for your time
and I look forward to your response.

A:

James,

The salesman at the electronics store could be talking about almost anything. Hopefully he is referring to larger LCD panels (not really much different than existing LCD TVs, except for size), which are coming and compete with plasma in terms of screen size. These are the only thing that are imminent. Future technologies may use any number of technologies, but are way too far off for some guy at an electronics store to be telling your Uncle to wait for. He also may be confusing LCD rear projection TVs with LCD flat panels. The technology used in both is similar but the former projects much larger (up to 70 inch) screen sizes within a slim (17-inch) box, while flat panels are exactly that, flat, but up until recently haven’t been that big (30 inches).
