| An avid home theater enthusiast, Dave bought his first stereo system as a teenager, adding a Sony digital color TV to it soon afterward (yes, we told him that digital TVs weren’t available way back then, but Dave swears the Sony was “digitally” operated….). Not long afterward, surround sound in the form of quadraphonic became all the rage, and caught by the surround bug, he upgraded his system with virtually all of the available quad formats (extra points if you can name all six of them) – quite possibly, the stupidest thing he has ever done, as quad exploded in popularity and just as spectacularly imploded not too long afterwards.
Now as the director of Digital TV Magazine’s unique desert home theater testing center in the perpetually sunny and sometimes very damn hot Palm Springs resort town, Dave has a full-blown 7.1 THX/DD-EX/DTS-ES home theater system that kicks major butt, with a late-model but still-quite-young Runco 8” CRT HDTV projector mated to a 78” Stewart StudioTek 130 widescreen. After roughly three decades in the A/V business, Dave knows a thing or two. Fortunately for us, he is always ready to test the latest and greatest new toys and share his views with Digital TV Magazine’s superbly informed and extremely well-read subscribers. |
